Changing ISP o2 or Bethere?

O2 and BE are seperate companies still, in the same way that ford own volvo.
Be have made a statement amounting to saying there are no plans to disolve the Be packages into the O2 packages.

Using the above analogy, there are some shared apects, eg. the focus ST uses a volvo 2.5 engine, but you wouldnt take a focus to a volvo garage for a service.
Volvos are built and serviced by volvo, not ford, and they will never be rebranded as fords.
Ford and Volvo's don't share exactly the same models though. A better analogy would be to compare a Vauxhall Corsa to an Opel Corsa. Different dealerships/support but exactly the same underlying product at the end of the day.

ok guys i changed from BT to Be and in my time with Be things haven't been exactly rosie!

1) innitially i had my online gaming ping go from 7-14 with BT (8mb) to 20-24 with Be, all be it nothing massive it's still unexpected that i got a increase. This problems has been near enough fixed now that i've enabled Fastpath and i'm pinging around 16-17.

2) after setting up my Be email accounts for my family i haven't once been able to access them.

3) Yesterday and today i've tried accessing many websites and it's producing error's such as this one which i've just received

"Server not found

Firefox can't find the server at uk.f863.mail.yahoo.com.
* Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web."

so all in all not been particularly impressed with my connection and i hope it gets better from this, if anyone has any of the similar problems or has any resolutions please let me know!

I'm with Be on their Value package. I've changed my BeBox for a Draytek 2800VG so I'm actually getting less than 8M (it's a known problem with the 2800VG), but that doesn't bother me. My BeBox was actually better for wireless than the 2800VG, but the 2800VG has a lot more functionality. The BeBox is the property of Be and if/when you leave they'll want it back or it's a £100 charge. If you're going to upgrade the firmware, make sure you can change it back again.

Email
Unless you have a fixed ip, to send emails you must use Be's own server
Outbound mail server (SMTP): smtp1.bethere.co.uk
Mail server port (SMTP port): 25
Use tls/ssl: no
Use authentication: no

Web surfing.
Be's own DNS servers are a bit flakey. Use the OpenDNS ones instead.
208.67.222.222 & 207.67.220.220
There's also an issue with Be blocking an entire ip, if some of the domains hosted are blacklisted.

Have a look over at Be's own forums (accessed from you member centre home page) or the unofficial www.beforum.co.uk.

i changed the dns now the websites are fine but i can't access bebox as it keeps forwarding to openDNS, will changeing my router fix this? was thinking about the DG834nGT i think it's called by netgear

What address are you using for the bebox? Sounds like you might be using a hostname, which OpenDNS won't know what to do with, rather than an IP address.

Ive been with O2 broadband about 6 weeks now and cant fault them. On the 20meg package, getting 2mb down and about 240k up .

I just moved into a flatshare that uses BeBox internet, the wireless signal from the router is terrible, im only 10m away and I can barely get on the internet. Took 5 attempts to load this page...it also disconnects me every few seconds.

argh

Download a utility to scan for wireless networks and scan for any that are around. Change the channel in your own router to one that isn't being used by the others.
