It's my first car, so I've never changed radio players before. In my current motor, there's a casette player. I want to replace it with a cd player. Am I right in assuming that if I bought a cd player off the net, it would come with the entire device instead of just the front end? Really stupid question, sorry - just that my sister's boyfriend buys new cd players for his motor all the time and it only seems like he's just getting a new front-end and changing that around with each new purchase.

Yep basically it's like a mini piece of hifi equipment, slots in the hole where the existing one sits (about 20 cm deep). Think of it as replacing an optical drive in a PC ;)

You'll need the correct "keys" to remove the existing radio, as well as possibly a wiring adaptor, but this depends on the car. What is it?

Other than that it's pretty much a piece of cake to swap :)

No its a whole unit you will be changing. What car is it you have? You may need a iso adaptor and possibily a din adaptor.

Getting your old head unit out could be easy could be hard depending on if you have the release keys for it or not. (Some are stupidly easy to remove without)

It is normally as simple as..

Remove old head unit
Remove cage for old head unit
Fit cage from new head unit
Fit ISO adaptor
Connect new head unit
Check new head unit is working correctly (check all speakrs are working with the balance control on head unit, Check radio works, Check radio channels are keep in memory after ignition is turned off) if all is A ok

Slide new head unit into din slot push back until it locks into place.

Enjoy :p
