Hey all,

I am currently on Virgin's 3 for £30 package which includes the 2mb broadband, with trials being carried out elsewhere in the country for the Large (currently 4mb) package being increased to 10mb I was considering upping my connection to Large. As I am on the 3 for £30 will my monthly cost only go up for the broadband or as my services will no longer be the same as the 3 for £30 will I lose the discount that it provides?

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks

I upgraded from the same package as you to 20 mb and it is around 17-19pounds a month more although i complained when they put it up as the speed was poor at 1st so they are still charging me for 2 mb even though its now up to speed.

So by the sounds of it they did only increase your broadband price, you didn't lose any discount that the 3 for £30 originally provided

Try phoning them, they'll have a much better idea of current deals and may even be able to offer you a better package than those advertised.

Well I called, it increased my bundle price by £7. Now I just have to wait until they upgrade the large package to 10mb and I'm back where I started a few months back :)

Back when we lost all the Sky channels etc. I rang up to 'leave' them for Sky as they had better offers etc. (i.e. free 8MB BB, the missing channels etc. and cheeper...)

They upgraded me from 2MB, Phone, and basic telly 3 for £30 to:

4MB, Phone with free evening and weekend calls, and Large telly for £27/month

Amazing what blackmail can do.

http://nthellworld.co.uk for info on the forums, and general VM rants.

Most people have been saying that it's not really worth upgrading from the 4mb because you only get the top whack d/l speed for about 20 minutes before it gets "shaped". I'm not even sure the 4mb is worth it, as after 750mb it drops down to 2mb (last time I checked that was about 45 minutes too).

Evening browsing speeds are lame and getting lamer, and there's no sign of change on the horizon. But fear not, there's 50mb trials being pushed throughout the country as DOCSIS 3.0 comes in... just means you'll hit your cap faster. :D

/cynicism off

If I could leave VM today, I'd go but the only alternative is expensive 2mb DSL (factoring in the cost of a landline). :(

All I had with VM was 20Mb BB and that was costing me £37 a month. They rang me out of the blue a couple of weeks ago and offered me landline, set-top box and 20Mb BB all for £31 a month, I said where's the catch ? is it going to shoot up after 3 months, he said no that's it - no hidden connection charges or anything it's just £31 a month, he said it's the same offer as for new customers, to which I replied when can you come and connect it :D
