Hi guys i have gotten a massive pile of my late fathers black and white 120 roll film negatives can any of you suggest a free to use software that i can use along with my scanner to get the negs into the computer then i can flip them to positive. I am trying to get this done quite quick as my mother would like to see them again. The original photo's were destroyed years ago in a fire... Thank you for any help..

The scanner's original software should be able to do this. I was able to scan some colour negatives using Epson's scanner software.

If you have Photoshop, there is an extension called grain2pixel which is simple and excellent.

If you want something standalone, try out NegPy - https://github.com/marcinz606/NegPy
It is more complicated with a lot of features you probably won’t want, but it is also very effective. You will have to scan the negatives and use NegPy to convert them as a separate step. It might take some time to get the settings dialled in to your liking, but with monochrome it shouldn’t be too onerous.

Another option is Vuescan. It will scan and invert in one step which you might prefer. It’s a great bit of software but the creator is a bell end and if you need support it can be hit or miss.
