You can switch supplier with debt on a meter, each supplier has a different threshold that they are willing to take on. We take on a max of £100 but BG will take £500. The recovery rate of your debt will be set by the supplier (usually set to 25%) and can range from 10% to 50%. You also won't get a final bill as you're on prepay mode, but you should still be able to change suppliers. Once you have your supply taken over by your new supplier you may be able to negotiate a recovery rate at a lower percentage but if your debt is significant then it's unlikely.
