Changing process name ?

Don't think so. Changing the name of the core file would mean that the main program wouldn't be able to find it, so would just download another.

But are there really people out there who scrutinise the processes their system is running and want to know what each one is?

But, imagine his bosses surprise when he discovers vmware-vmx.exe munching 90% of his CPU power.

Hmmm, wonder if you can install it as a service and get it to open the Ubuntu virtual machine without anybody noticing.....

I check mine now and then, especially if my PC has slowed a bit, to see if Firefox has pulled it's "Yay, give me 600MB of your RAM" trick again and have a brief look through the others to see if anything sus is lurking...
 
yeah, I know some people who you wouldn't have thought would even know how to do it, doing it!

If you use the VMware Management Interface with VMware Server you set VMs to auto start with Windows -no user intervention required. The VM starts without the console window & runs completely in the background.

You need IIS on the machine running the VM to use the VMware Management Interface though.
Only problem is the VM starts with normal priority so I usually have to lower the priority with Task Manager to avoid slowing down everyday tasks on the PC.
 
I might look into that.

I have an issue that annoys me with regards to VMWare though and may stop it working, I think either .NET or CCC takes an age to start up when I boot the PC. I need .NET for CCC, and I need CCC as I have 2 GFX cards, catch 22.

I can do absolutely nothing until all that is initialised,if I try they just hang until everythings loaded, but VMWare doesn't allow access to my VM's properly. I have to start VMWare afterwards

Grrrrr.
