Changing PS3 harddisk

If I change the PS3's harddisk, do I have to buy the PSN games again and what happens to the memorycard files I saved, is there a way to keep them?

Also will any 2.5" SATA drive do and how does the harddrive get connected to the PS3, I have seen that it is just a case of taking out the old drive and sliding in a new one but how do you connect the power and SATA connector to the drive?

Man why on earth are people putting some large hard drives in it, completely pointless unless you want to download the whole of PSN.
