Hi all,

My PS4 is quite loud, I read on the internet that changing the thermal paste will make it very quiet. Has anyone tried this? I looked for guides online and it doesn't seem very complicated.

Cheers

Let us know how you get on rdb, might be tempted to do it for mine. Doesn't tend to get too loud but any improvement is welcome.

Mine was driving me up the wall the other day, since then I have been thinking about doing the same.

It's a shame the fan doesn't look changeable either.

Dakaiez, has it been quite ever since you changed it? And if so, how long ago did you change the paste?

I changed it around two/three months ago, hasn't been whisper quiet like when i bought it but a massive improvement over the sound it was making.

Just gave the fan a nice cleaning and a nice new dab of arctic silver as the old one was solid and it's been pretty solid since.

I sold my launch PS4 and then bought a new one in a crazy deal for less than what I sold my launch ps4 for.

Obviously the new one I bought is the new chassis with the lower power consumption and lower heat produced therefore the fan doesn't ramp up as much which is where the majority of the noise comes from.

Might be worth looking into rather than messing with the console. You get a new console plus 12 month warranty for free.

The deal I got at the time was the console plus 3 games. i sold all 3 games to bring the price down. 2 of them with the old console the other on gumtree.

I've always found WD40 good for the fan bearing. It certainly made the PS3 fan quieter then used a slightly thicker oil after it soaked for a bit so it wouldn't evaporate over time.

You're best to source a new PS4, the later revisions are much quieter than the launch model.

The original design just wasn't good enough to prevent it sounding like a hair dryer whenever a game was played.

I wonder what they were thinking when creating it as it went into production. A console that was louder than the PS3 Super Slim.

Yeah I did it by following the ifixit guide. I used thermal grizzly Kryonaut and it made a big difference.

WD40 probably isnt the best choice... it's more of a degreaser. it will strip the grease out and drip. A lubricant would be better like white lithium or chain oil or something

Hence why I used it as it was becoming stiff after a few years of use. You missed the thicker oil part. I had used C60 micro lube.
