Hi all,

I want to install my SSD with Win 7 in AHCI mode.

i currently have a raid 0 with some samsung drives (not sure if in AHCI mode atm) I plan on, pulling out the power cables for my raid0, changing SSD mode to AHCI then booting off my Win 7 Drive and installing on my SSD.

Q1: will my raid still be intact after win 7 is installed on my SSD and i plug the power back in. (assume yes like power offs etc)

Q2: Lets say my Sata mode is in IDE atm... i change to AHCI install W7 all is fine. Will my raid 0 still be viewable as a slave after the change from IDE > AHCI ?!?

Of course ill change boot priority over to SSD first then Raid 0 2nd.

Q3: I have read http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 which says i have to enable AHCI drivers first in the regedit. My regvalue for Start is currently "4" what does this mean? does it mean its not enabled atm?!?

Thanks very much for reading and your time

If the SSD is going onto the same controller as the RAID array then that controller will be in RAID mode and needs to stay that way.

Intel Southbridge controllers however run single drives in AHCI mode if the controller is set to RAID mode.

ok thanks for you input. i guess stupid of me not to put my mobo down as that would have helped the cause ^_^

I have abit IP35 Pro. So yeah i guess im intel'd up and i have AHCI already.

If you have a RAID array on the southbridge controller then the controller needs to stay in RAID mode and you need to continue to use the RAID driver. Changing anything will lead to the array being, at best, inaccessible.

well thanks for all the replies. As always RPStewart your a superstar. I think every technical question i've had about HD has been replied by you over the last 2 years. Not that i've had loads but it seems ur always on hand! maybe OcUK should make u a don of HD!

In the end like Beserker said it was Simples ^_^ i didnt even need to do anything.. i guess AHCI is like scsi or something?!? i just pluged it in and installed. and its super fast!
