Changing the type of games I play

INSIDE. Great game with more than one ending.
F.E.A.R. Great spooky/fps game.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. An fps game where you can't "run 'n'gun" because you'll die, lots. Even the weather will kill you in this game, let alone the Hamsters. Ye gads, those Hamsters!
Dungeon Souls. A perma-death with crafting that you don't lose.
Terraria. Sooooooo much got added free to this game that was already overloaded with stuff to do. Modable too.
Dying Light:The following. (steam version). Can be modded & load more stuff coming for free this year.
SLAIN: Back from Hell. Great pixellated hack 'n' slash/jumper with some rockin' metal tunes.
EVERSPACE. A permadeath space game, really good game.
Hammerwatch. A Gauntlet type game with single player or co-po.
Layers of Fear. A spooky game with lots of "wth's going on!?".
Lil Inferno. A great bizzarre game where you get to set fire to things :D
Metro series.
Dust: An Elysian tale. Amazingly good 2D hack 'n' slash.
Banished. Great city builder that can be modded. Especially as it was made by one person.
Shadow Warrior 1/2. Everyone needs more Wang.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent/SOMA or anything by Frictional Games.
Spelunky. Permadeath platformer.
99 levels to Hell. Permadeath platformer.
The Solus Project. RPG with some crafting & spooky dolls.
The Swapper. Spooky platformer/puzzler with more than one ending.
Unepic. Funny 2D platformer.

After playing Journey and Firewatch I started to try and find more shorter games.

I have so many games that are practically untouched (particularly on Steam, damn you sales!) I almost feel guilty when I buy something new when I have this pile to wade through.

I love a good lengthy campaign and put about 100 hours into Breath of the Wild but found being able to experience a variety of games and actually complete them over the course of a few nights or weekends really satisfying.

I recently picked up Inside on the cheap and oh my lord that's a brilliant game... right from the off I fell in love with the style and horribly dark atmosphere, not finished it yet but really keen to see where it goes.

I just picked up Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons as that also got rave reviews, it's currently on sale for £2.19 on Steam which is ridiculously cheap for a game averaging 90% on metacritic http://store.steampowered.com/app/225080/Brothers__A_Tale_of_Two_Sons/
 

The swapper is a great atmospheric puzzler.

Another vote for Ori here. I'm playing it third time round. It's so beautiful and well made. Sequel out this year !

When I first tried Swapper, wasn't amused. Gave it a second shot a long time later & was really impressed.
 
The Swapper looks interesting, kind of reminds me of that old Amiga platformer that had amazing graphics for its time

Since creating this thread I've bought and played the following -

Lifeless Planet - It was going really well until I quit the game and it says "Saving and quitting" then when I loaded it back up to play it again it loaded up a good half hour prior to where I quit so I'll go back to that.

Ori and the blindforest - I really really liked this to start, such an awesome looking, fun but challenging game and I was really enjoying it and then the Ginsun Tree. After a couple of hours of incredible frustration I have uninstalled it. Shame.

Quantum Break - This game got slated when it came out, I should have learned by now not to bother with reviews because one of my favourite cars that I've ever owned also got slated by reviewers but I loved it. The graphics, wow they are probably the best graphics I have eve seen, the actors are all real actors I recognise and I really like the combat and gun mechanics. Really enjoying it. The film sequences are ok, bit strange for a game and a little too long.

It's a less expensive game because it's quite short, much shorter than a typical story based AAA game.
It's great while it lasts though. At £2.19 it's a must buy if you haven't played it.

I thought it was good not great.

Does surprise me mind that there are (AFAIK) no other games with the same control style given its popularity...
