In the past 6 months, I have stopped using my desktop machine for Gaming, tend to use the 360 more now, only game I play on the desktop is Eve online.

The system I have is a year old and nothing special, cost me about £370 to build, plus I have a 24 inch Dell 2407 (rev04) that would probably fetch about £150-£175.

Has anyone else thought of doing this, only I dont want to sell it and then regret this, most laptops about £600 can run EVE, which is all that matters, all my other gaming can be done on the 360.

I change my laptop every two years on average, so the upgradabilty is not all that important, would have to be 17inch, and have something with at least a Nvidia 8600.

This may sound silly but I am worried that I if I go down this route, I`ll miss the ergomonics of a desktop, I know this is silly as I can connect a monitor and keyboard to it. Plus as well my PC is left on all day using up power, I ve always done this by habit.

Anyone else gone down this route

I thought about not upgrading my PC and going for a Dell XPS 16 laptop. Quite pricey, but an adequate desktop replacement. However I knew I'd miss the whole 'pulling up to the desk'/'at the computer' feel you get with a PC.

Yeah thats my exact reasoning as well. there is a Dell xps on the mm, that looks promising.

Another reason is that in a few years the computer room will probably be a nursery. The wife has plans and I will need to give up the space.

The XPS 16 looks like a good balance between power and price

I did do that once. Bought an HP Pavilion ZD8369EA from the work scheme. £1500 worth of laptop. It lasted me a year, used to game on it (CS:S and BF2), but then as games progressed needed a PC. Had to buy a cooling pad for it, but it did used to keep my hands warm when using it in the winter. If you do not plan on upgrading, or even gaming, then it will probably do you fine. My current laptop I have had for 19 months and is still going strong. Still get ~4 hours out of the battery! Its a Dell 6400.

Those Zd laptops were always very hot. From what I remember wearnt these the desktop P4's?

Heat is also one thing that puts me off gaming on a laptop, a laptop I purchase must be Intel (tend to run cooler), the noise annoys me when the fans are on. I hate running a machine all the time when I feel its being pushed.
