Hi all,

tend not to venture into motors too much and just to prove why i am picking up a 2005 2.0TDCi Ford C-Max Ghia tomorrow in exchange for my 2009 Corsa Design (+£500 in my pocket)

it seems like an odd move but with christmas looming i dont have the cash to pay extra towards and the corsa needs a service, 4 new tyres, tax, interior fans dont work and has a horrid metal grinding noise from the back wheel when turning right so it needs a bit of work which seems pointless paying for for a car thats too small for a family... so we popped to the dealership and are now picking up the C-Max tomorrow evening... took it for a drive and its nicer to drive then the corsa is and far much more room.

its only £30 more a year in tax and comes with 12 months parts and labour warrenty so its not too bad and will be much nicer on family days out as the corsa really isnt a nice car on the motorway for any period of time with 2 kids.

anyway, no real point to the thread just thought i would update the forum as its where ill be in a few weeks when i have an older car with an exploded egine ;)

i agree with the getting rid of the corsa being a good move... its economical but other then that it has no other above average features.

when i got it initially i planned on getting a fiesta (still would have been a bad long term car) but refused to as the Ford dealership in Grimsby is run by a bunch of pushy arogant ****'s

i dont mind GRanny or GTranny as thats generally what i get called when people see my psn name... if i have GTranny can i get lipstick on my avatar please mods :D

Not the worst change ever.

I've went from looking at 330ci as a next car to 1.8 Astra Sri to a cheap 1.2 clio as a runabout for a year to build up some NCB.

I'm not sure I understand why everyone thinks this is a good change, perhaps due to the fact everyone hates Corsas.

To me, it seems you've changed for a selection of frankly ridiculous reasons. Your car needed road tax and some tyres, like every car does, and had a minor issue with the rear wheels.

Trading it in for a car thats twice the age and twice as complex (Seriously, if you think a noise from the rear wheel on a 2009 Corsa is a big deal wait until your 2005 commonrail TDCi engine plays up), even with a 'warranty' that wont be worth the paper its written on, strikes me as immeasurely short sighted.

im well aware that im taking a risk here but it wasnt a quick decision without some research.

i cant argue im getting a better car because im not but a bit more info.

The corsa was purchased in january 2012 2 weeks before she gave birth to our 2nd daughter, at the time we was short on cash had a mondeo doing 20-25mpg with 230,000 miles on the clock and as the car was only used for short journeys to and from work and the odd small trip to see family or around town we picked up a corsa (should have got a fiesta).

roll on to now and i live 3 miles from work but 50 miles away from the family as we moved earlier in the year.

the problem comes with driving for any period of time (including the A180... must be one of the worst roads in britian) in the corsa is uncomfortable, cramped and tiring... as we now visit family atleast once a week a more comfortable car was a must.

Have to agree with that really. In the length of a phone contract, you might well hate your 10 year old car and wish still had your relatively new Corsa.

Short on cash = buy 3yr old car to replace working car that probably did <6k miles/yr to save <£700/yr on petrol costs? :p

50 miles has got to be an hour and a half tops, on bad roads?

OK the small part is fair but tiring, and needing a new car because the old one needs consumables is strange, but you've bought a 2ltr turbo.

Surely you're now going to regret that with fuel costs?

(I'm a petrol driver so please don't lol if ive made an error with thinking this will cost more)

I'd say the swap is a good one, but the reasons are not. For example, the grinding on the Corsa was probably just a wheel bearing, replaceable at a cost of ~£50. The interiour fans could be just a fuse. You'll have to tax and service this car and tyres are a normal running cost.

The Ghia Focus will be undoubtedly better to drive for 100 miles per day but don't kid yourself that you've made a financially beneficial decision.

i know that i havent made a financially better decision im well aware of that, didnt mean it to come off like that, i think a big part of the justification for me is just wanting rid of the corsa, at the time it was the right car and was part of a bigger plan stuck in my old job and accepting that was where i was going to be for a long time, things changed and im now in a far better place mentally and financially, new house, new job and a new salary.

chances are within a couple of years, possibly the next MOT i may regret the change but a lot may of changed by then... if i have my way it will anyway.

cheers for the comments anyway guys, and please dont be too harsh on my stupidity when i come crying for advise

I had to Google what a C max is so that's how little I know. I've said it once & I'll say it again, I wish people would just say I fancied a change/hated me old motor/just got carried away/was drunk/me wife made me do it, This would save about 20 posts dissecting the reasons for purchase & concentrate the thread on the new motor.

Anyway - People carriers/space wagon type things = :(

Enjoy your new purchase. :D
