Is there a way or putting drives in the order that you want them?

After installing a new SSD

SSD = "C"
DVD = "D"
HDD = "E & F" (Single drive)

I'd like my HDD to become "D" (I intend to reformat as a single)

Yes, if you want the HDD to become E, go to the DVD drive, change it to Z temporarily and move the HDD to D, then move the DVD to where you want it.

You can do this in the standard Windows Disk Management utility!

The above is correct, Windows disk management is the place to do this.

**A drive can't be renamed if it has an active page file on it. (I fell foul of that one)

Thanks chaps & Chapesses (just in case)

Just had a look. Flashes a little warning that any progams that rely on drive letters may become miffed, so I'll leave well alone just in case. Thanks tho..

That is fairly normal to be fair. Just for example if you have shortcuts aiming at c:\whatever and you change the drive name, they will have to be remade to aim at d:\whatever (if you change c to d) But that will have effects on programs as well.

As you intend to format HDD that's going to be irrelevant so change away.
