Channels Help

Can anyone give me simple explanation of the dual channel / triple channel memory types. I am currently thinking of building a system based on Phenom II x4 955 and the Gigabyte MA790 XT UD4P modo.

I am confused about memory I think I need DDR 3 but this channel thing puzzles me.

I intend to use Win 7 so am thinking about 4gb. Any advice

you need DDR3 dual channel ram like this
