I'm after suggestions on some cop shows that mostly revolve around the cops, their lives and how the job affects them. Currently i'm watching 19-2 a Canadian show and i think it's great, it's an English remake of another Canadian show of the same name that was in French, only have a few episode left though. I'm not so much interested in the episodic cases but rather the main characters themselves and how they evolve and adapt.

I'm looking for things like this, Southland, Rookie Blue etc. I've already seen :

The Wire
The shield
Southland
Rookie Blue
NYPD Blue
Dexter
Probably a few others i can't remember

I have Homicide Life on the Street DVD ordered too but struggling to find other shows.

Excitedly came in here to suggest my favourite three and am left deflated that you've seen them :D

The Wire
The Shield
Southland

These are bit off from your original request, but have you tried Fortitude and Fargo? How about True Detective and Hannibal?

All are extremely well written with deep characters, but not traditional police drama.

Lol yeah i thought i'd get them out of the way as having watched first seeing as the first two are the most suggested in any TV thread.

I've seen Fargo, True Detective and Hannibal. Love all of them. I haven't watched Fortitude though, i noticed it when it was airing but looked at the imdb blurb and forgot about it.

Speaking of which, The Wire Bluray... drool.

Chicago PD
Law & Order : SVU
Law & Order : Criminal Intent

Chicago PD i watch, started out with Chicago Fire then when the pilot crossover episode appeared for PD i switched to that and stopped watching Fire as i was getting bored with that one.

SVU I remember watching some episodes of one season when Christpher Meloni was in it and liking it, seen a couple of crossovers with it and Chicago PD alsoo so will give it a try, cheers.

Law & Order, isn't that more courtroom drama?

I liked the Criminal Intent when Vincent D'Onofrio was in it. It does have some court room aspects but the cops/detective stuff comes before that.

How about the tv show Blue Bloods, with Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg. Thats about a family of cops and very much focuses on how the jobs they do affects them

Is this any good? I've seen it one and love Tom but never really got round to watching it for one reason or another.

I watched it up until around a season ago. I didn't get bored but just had too many shows to watch at the time.

It's popular, I didn't think much of it though. It's a bit preachy and cheesy at times.

Justified is excellent, Longmire is very good too and hugely underrated.

I found that Blue Bloods goes in waves of good and ok.

I've started that show twice and never got past a few episodes. It's not because i didn't like what i saw but rather, again, that i had too many other shows at the time to get into it. Is it worth it and is Starbuck good in it?

I really like it, it's reasonably gritty without ever being too over-the-top, and the characters (especially Walt Longmire) are superb. Katee Sackhoff is great too.
