Character driven cop shows

op I think you would like the film End of Watch.

Thanks for the suggestion. Mid way through it just now and the over use of being filmed by cam thing is getting annoying.

I take it back. I said that maybe 20-30mins in, went for a walk then came back and watched the rest. I liked it but thought it should have been a portion on a TV series, it didn't quite work as a movie.

Flashpoint is a Canadian show about an SRT unit (SWAT equivalent) - it does have a case of the week format, but it also looks at the politics and lives of the team.

Chicago Code only got one season, but I think you'd enjoy it from how you describe what you're after. There's no massive cliffhanger ending either which is a bonus :D

Is this any good? I've seen it one and love Tom but never really got round to watching it for one reason or another.

Bluebloods is quite good, it's not all out action but has it's moments, it focuses around a family that are all (to one extent or another) involved in law enforcement.

Selleck's character is the most interesting to me given his challenges of morality, law, conscience and family.

Donnie Wahlberg's character is very good as well. I've been a fan of his since Band of Brothers.

Show is well written as well. Only thing that is a bit lacking is a big story arch, smaller ones come and go but I guess the main point of the show is seeing other aspects of the job and how they impact on family life.

Homicide - Life on the street

It's the forerunner to The Wire and based on Davis Simons book Homicide - A year on the killing streets, which I advise everyone to read.

Just realised OP mentioned that at the bottom...

I really enjoy Chicago PD. It is pretty gritty and well acted. Some of the latest episodes are very good.

Also Criminal Minds is good but they often tread over the same scenarios.

There is also Gracepoint which is an American remake of the British Show Broadchurch.

Both great shows.

Terriers (sadly only 1 season but its a brilliant indie detective show)
Luther (really surprised no one mentioned this yet!)
True Detective
The Commish (its a cheesy dramedy starring the guy from The Shield before he was famous and bald)
White Collar (maybe this is more heist type series)
