Cheap to run to me is reasonable fuel costs so I doubt one of these will have the kind of mpg as a gas guzzling scooby or skyline, cheap to insure for me anyway, and cheaper tax as these come under the cheaper tax bracket being under 1600cc. As said above all work will be done by myself.

You don't include running repairs as cost of running a car? How easy is it to source parts for these anyway?

Camskill seem to know a lot about them too, might be worth giving them a ring. Very helpful for advice.

my parents bought one of these new in 1987. it got rave reviews at the time, which were well deserved and it wasnt a shed. turbo went smokey once, no other problems.
age goes against them now, so find one that isnt rotten and doesnt have a worn out engine..... the one you linked to has a nice shell but its engine is worn, good candidate for an engine rebuild with extra mods

No wouldn't need to use it it would be a second car just something to mess about with the only real downer is parts availability some will most likely be a pita to get hold of but thats half the fun it was the same when I had my skyline r32 some things were just a nightmare to get hold of.

Exactly engine rebuild nice little project unfortunatly that one will be gone by the time I get back as im working away for the next 6 months but it will give me plenty of time to save up
