When the man responded like that, why didn't the brother say 'hang on mate, you dropped your phone - I want to give it back to you' or something. Personally I wouldn't go up to someone at night from behind and tap them on the back anyway, it's asking for trouble isn't it? Why didn't he speak to get his attention 'excuse me mate?'

Think I am equally missing the point - he has a £250 phone which is (probably) barred. Using or selling it would equate to theft. I dont see what he has gained, other than an anecdote.

take it to the cops, tell em you found it on the road, iirc if its not claimed in x weeks its yours?

Drive over it first if you're going to hand it in to the cops, but take the SIM out so it doesn't get damaged and reinsert afterwards. This pretty much makes sure it will get back to him. In bits.

What the heck? Thats half the problem in this country - we're so used to the chavs and other morons running amock... i cant believe you actually just said its asking for trouble by simply tapping someone on the shoulder to get their attention!?! What planet are you living on?!

Heres a thought, if the guy he tapped on the shoulder was so keen to prove himself, what would happen if the OP's bro presented the phone to him? Do you not think that the type of person who gets agitated by a tap on the shoulder might be a bit peeved with someone holding his phone up and to him and smiling? I wouldnt be suprised if he jumped to the conclusion that the OP's bro had nicked it off him, or was taking the ****. That wouldnt be fun, i'm sure.

I would have done the same thing but wouldn't of been able to keep the phone. I would have just handed it in to the police but I wouldn't go out of my way to do it, let the guy sweat for a bit.

Or tap him on the shoulder "who the...etc. etc." and cue a Fatima Whitbread style throw, "You dropped you phone mate, there it goes" :D

I think thats brilliant. People like that who just lash out get what they deserve. Like someone has said already, lets hope he puts two and two together.

maybe you could phone the home number and offer it him back :) ...... BUT that would be boring how about you phone home and hold it for ransom i want £20 left near the bin on *enter street here*

Regardless of how the bloke acted, theft is theft, and you people are actually posting praising the OP's brother??

I would have done the same thing to be honest, going to help someone and getting an earful of *****...
Goodbye you silly fool, thanks for being an arse! :D *ebays phone*
