Cheap 2900's

Yep people need to remember that even if something isn't limited with it's current setup, if you halve the power than it may turn out to be.

For example lets say you have a car with a top speed of 120mph. Law breakers aside, that is fine for driving around the UK and in some ways that top speed is 'going to waste'.

However, that doesn't mean that you wouldn't notice a difference if you halved it - impose an artificial 60mph limit on the car and you would get a bit frustrated with motorway driving.

This is what I read as well, that the 2900Pro would be based on the die-shrink of the R600 (can't remember if they called it R670 or something else) and would have slightly lower clockspeeds but won't require external power connectors.
Obviously that chip isn't out yet so these MUST be underclocked XTs. As Gibbo says, maybe AMD wanted to have an interim solution earlier, or maybe they just had a bad batch of R600s that couldn't quite hit stock speeds so they decided to underclock them! :p

So the R670 may not even have PCI-E Power connectors when that's released in november?

i highly doubt it. its deffo gonna have external power connector. its next to impossible for them to shed off 120w worth of power with a die shrink. either way its probably gonna get rid of the 8 pin power connector and use a regular 6 pin one.

the same way intel gone back to atx form factor, since btx was only needed for the p4 since it ran soo hot. hence why it can be considered a proprietry form factor. just like how the 2900 has its proprietry 8 pin power connector. regardless if its a standard if its the only card using it then it counts as proprietry since it has such a high power draw that it needs the connector.

Clocks are, 600 on the gpu and 800 on the memory, like others have said, its a 2900xt with lower clocks, which may not be a bad thing, especially if they can clock to xt speeds.

Just have to wait and see on the memory interface, obviously there must be a difference between 256bit and 512bit otherwise they would not have bothered doing the XT as a 512bit, would have just done it 256, but even so once they are clocked up to XT speeds, or near, they may actaully turn out to be not that much slower due to the 256bit, if it is that, so probably turn out a good buy. :)

I for one am quite looking forward to these cards :)
I have just sold one of my 2600's in preperation for the cards coming out and I think I may just go for one!
512mb memory is definately a plus point as we all know the 320mb of the GTS is sometimes a bit lacking. I doubt the final price will be as stated just now as there will be several etailers trying to sell the card too!
What I am curious about however is when exactly the release date is going to be because is this 30th September release actually a confirmation or certain? I certainly hope so because we are talking a release in 2 weeks :D

512 confirmed.
