Little problem here. Building a new machine, but was going to keep my current machine (Barton 2600, 1GB DDR) running alongside it for stuff like IRC, web browsing etc while I 'use' my main. With that in mind, I told my little bro ha can have my 9800 Pro, and I'll have his FX5500. Cool.

However, we also wanna do some light gaming together, one of us on each machine. Nothing too demanding, FFXI, the forthcoming Phantasy Star Universe etc... realised I might still need something meatier than an FX5500! Don't really wanna let down my bro though.

So, was looking at what cheap-but-effective AGP solutions are still avaliable - The X1600 Pro seems best bang for buck, without being a wallet buster.

Would I see THAT much improvement over and FX5500 to justify it? I'm not really sure where the X1600 Pro falls in the power ladder...

Wouldn't this be better off in the GFX card section instead of Hard drives?

Crap my apologies. Just realised actually, totally forgot I was still in the HDD section. If a mod could move the topic, would be appricated!

How does 6800/X800 compare to a X1600 Pro anyway?

I've heard many reports about the X1600PRO saying to stay away from them.
