Brother is after a cheap AMD system. He does game a little. He cannot afford Skylake like me :p

He is an occasional gamer, nothing stressful. , Minecraft! lol

He wants to be able to game a little though.

Cheap as chips but capable apparently. AMD is his preferred route with onboard GPU (like me).

AMD A8 Capable? Budget is low, around £300 for CPU, Mobo and Ram.

Like me he is not interested in a dedicated GPU as he just doesnt game in all reality.

He has a Hard drive and a PSU and a case (Which i have given him)

With £300 for only CPU, memory and motherboard, I am pretty sure it is enough for even the top of the line APU such as the A10-7870K, faster 2400MHz DDR3 memory (important for increasing the speed of the APU's graphic), motherboard and even with a fairly capable CPU cooler as well.

This an example Intel i5 system - note, its fairly sparse, but you'll have more upgrade headroom for later.
My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £308.92
(includes shipping: £0.00)

If going for an APU, £300 will net you the ability to get a top-end A8 and the Crossfire it with a 2GB graphics card (the one included will work with the APU), and 16GB of fast RAM - and a better-than-stock cooler, to give you some OC headroom:

You can obviously drop the extra graphics card for an SSD, and its probably worth doing that, IMO.

Or, you could go something non-APU, like this. On gut-instinct alone, I believe this'll give you better performance than an APU solution. If you can stretch to upgrade the R7 360 to an R7 370, that will significantly improve graphics performance.

lordzargon's second suggestion then, minus the GPU, plus a SSD. Get 8 G memory to bring the cost down further (but make sure it's 2400 MHz).

I have given him my old SSD, case and PSU. Thanks will check that spec out

I notice that that mobo only takes 2400 (OK) so if he doesn't overclock it, will it revert to 2133 speed?

Aloso, he needs wifi either on the motherboard or a good adapter as his PC is not in the same room as his router. Ta

It was only added for consideration, a bit more grunt would last a bit longer in terms of keeping up with future game titles.

But as above, middle-one with an SSD in there would solve the OP's question. The SSD will make a definitive, noticeable improvement - comes with a strong recommendation.

:)

Edit:-

Alternatively, go for just the APU/Mobo and just 8GB Ram @ 184.94 + P&P and save the money.

My understanding is that the spec only goes to 2133. The 2400 (OC) speed is added at the discretion of the mobo manufacturer. It should play fine with 2400 mem.

Thanks but that motherboard is overkill as he wont be buying a GPU. Plus 8gb ram would suffice for him.

Would an A8-7600 be a good choice guys? It is quite cheap!
