Been playing this over the past week. It's fun and addictive. I'm getting 90-130 fps average at 1080p with a GTX 970 with most settings on High or Epic. It's assigning slightly over 2GB VRAM so would recommend a 3GB video card model minimum, and can assign slightly over 3GB RAM, so the 8GB is fine. CPU is not all that intensive. No need for many cores, probably benefits from faster cores.

System is Haswell and DDR3 so I'd look for used i5-4670, i5-4690, i7-4770 or i7-4790. £100 for i5 and £145 for i7 were the last second-hand prices I spotted.

For graphics, something like an old R9 380X 3GB or GTX 770 4GB for £50-75 would give 60+ fps on High settings.

So it's doable for £150 if power supply will cope.

Other have stated solid action points and 2nd hand, all gone in with new, but only core components

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £328.43
(includes shipping: £10.50)

Stick this in with current GPU and should gain some fps at least :) 4 cores and 8 threads !
Think your current one is 2 cores only ?
and should last 3-4 odd years, by then you can pick up a second hand Ryzen 7 or Ryzen Zen+ refresh or zen2 cpu!

GPU would need changing before hand though

And to save cash and still a better CPU the installed currently

Although the it's lifetime with be a lot shorter as more to 6 core comes along and Intel do produce stronger 4 core/4 thread then amd

you can buy an i3 4160 for about £40-60 quid used, i would suspect you have an H81 board, so maybe get 2x8gb as those boards only max 16gb and would be nice to have, i have only played a little of this on xbox one, but i cant see it being too demanding, i had that i3 plus 16gb and a gtx 750 and played more demanding games over 50fps on high preset..

so i would say upgrade your haswell and then fork out on more newer better tech when the usage warrants it.

you could sell your r7 260 and buy a gtx 660 which is amongst the recommended for that games requirements

8GB is fine now, 16GB is recommend - mainly for the cost of ram increasing :(

if up upgrade - will last him longer , if you get a i3/5 second hand , will be a cheap option if he stops playing and moves to consoles/ doesn't game on PC

CEX have used 4770s.

And TwsT sold a 4770K for £100 just the other day in the MM. I'd keep an eye on the MM. Can put in a request for one, too.
