Iv'e seen a Vivitar V8400 8MP Digital Camera for £130 from an online store but what i cant understand is why is it so cheap.

I was looking at a Casio EX-S600SR before I saw this and that was £160 but it is only 6 MP, has the same zoom and same screen.

So can anybody explain why the 8MP is cheaper than the 6MP even though the specs look the same, or is the 8MP the deal of the century?

Thanks

Number of megapixels isn't the be all and end all of digital cameras. It's quality not quantity in this case.

My 10D is 'only' 6MP and will take hugely better quality photos then either of those cameras, and a Canon 1D which is only 4mp would take better quality photos then any of them.

ok but can i ask why and how do i know which takes better photos then?

The only real way is to compare photos taken with each. Quite clearly, as mere punters, we're generally a bit stuffed for that.
Check forums like the Fredmiranda website for some good indepth reviews or look around using google.

Picture quality (photographer aside) is generally related to glass quality, autofocus system, the number of mega pixels, the size of the sensor, pixel density and ability of the sensor (e.g. at higher ISO ratings).

£130-£160 is not cheap these days for a digi camera.
I would rather spend the same money on a quality 4Mp camera than one with 8MP that I won't even use.

More expensive is not always best, but try to get something with a good lens. I tend to use Steve's Digicam reviews when choosing a new camera.
