Cheap Chinese Android headunits

I installed an Eonon 4.4.4 quad core android one in my mazda 3.

sound quality is fine, Bluetooth audio a bit iffy but Bluetooth calls is fine.

touch screen is great, the fact I can run Google maps is wonderful. I just tether my phone to it.
I can run Internet radio which gives better audio vs FM.

when in traffic I can load Netflix.. (when I say traffic I mean stuck on m6 for hours and not moving)

Good units for £320... direct fit too, look like they belong there.

How do you mean by BT audio being iffy? That's my major worry if I ever end up getting one since parrot don't seem to care any more about releasing anything new. I like their bluetooth quality, it just works all the time with exceptional audio quality. But I want a more modenr unit so I can run the latest versions of Waze or Google Nav instead of the version Parrot have on their Asteroid Store.

Currently there are 2 types of Chinese sellers, old generation from the crap era who have slightly improved. Then the new hipster generation brought up with iPads and iPhones, quality is excellent and close to the Koreans etc.

Having now watched loads of youtube videos (almost all of which are taken on phones that seem like they were released in 2001....) I'm confident that the newer Eonon units will be just fine for what I'm after in a unit running a version of Android I can actually download the latest apps off of from the Play Store.

Key apps I want are:

* The latest Waze with the new UI (unsupported on the Parrot Asteroid Smart)
* Google Maps (unsupported on the Parrot again due to being on Android 2.3)
* Install nova Launcher so I can tweak the home screen even more than what the Asteroid allows with Apex Launcher since Nova won't work on the Parrot.
* Get better speed and app storage since the Parrot is single core and only has 500MB for app storage
* Has mirrorlink to display and use the phone from the head unit

Asteroid Smart is great at doing what it does, but I'm used to being able to just install whatever from the store on my phone and it works effortlessly. I just wish Parrot released the now dead in the water Asteroid Smart upgrade.

Slight disortion on high notes. Although I think it was a setting wrong.
I will test again

Yeah if your pre-amp EQ settings are scaled too high you will get distortions. Be interesting to know though. If Parrot have no new devices rumoured by the end of summer, i will just get an Eonon I think.

There is an issue I have though.
Volume is not high enough on max.

also when using stock harness there is a low level hum with bose systems.
simple rca mod fixes that but the volume isn't high enough. It's loud but not as loud as the stock unit.

Looking for a solution at the moment.

There is hidden settings yo ramp up the volumes but that introduces distortions.

hmm

That kinda sucks then :/ One of the reasons I prefer sticking with 1st party makers like Pioneer/Parrot etc. Just a damn shame they don't bleeding update their units!

While Waze works on the eonon it does not scale well, say if a camera warning pops up you won't be able to see much of the screen. Same with other bits.

Google maps works very well.

Nova works fine too but I found that I'm either in nav or music player so I hardly if ever use it(physical mode/nav) buttons on the unit.

Mirror link software is there but it doesn't work with my galaxy s7 on marshmallow. Netherdid it work with my z3

Bluetooth audio codecs must be cack too because the audio is thin, low bass and volume.

I've noticed that due to resolution the apps often don't scale too well, Waze being a good example.

Ergh. So back to square 1 then.

Square 1 being Android Auto + Parrot + Shallow depth

I just installed a free audio booster app.
sound is much better now :o

Cool thanks^

7'' 1024*600 HD Capacitive

Hmm that might sort out the scalilng issue in apps like Waze when a popup shows a camera warning issue. What resolution is your one Grudas?

Yeah mine is the lower resolution one, the 800x480 I believe, higher res might just fix the scaling issue! :)

It's not a bad unit but software support could be better from eonon , majority of suggestions on Mazda forums(in my case) get ignored with a simple "our engineers are not planning on doing/implementing this in the near future" answer from official account!

I'm not regretting my purchase though and it does the job you just gotta be able to accept the fact that it's not going to be as polished as say stock android or touchwiz and simply work around issues or ignore them.

No problem with that as I've worked around a lot of the problems with an out of the box Asteroid Smart as it is to the point where now I simply just want to be able to use the latest app versions which I can't currently due to being hardware limited!

Excellent, the one ADT linked to above is the one I shall go for sooner rather than later I guess. I notice there are Android 5.1.1 versions out on eBay too which look the same:

Hi, i've recently moved to New Zealand, and my first task was to buy a car, i was never going to get a BMW like my one in UK so after searching for something in my budget of $20k NZ, the first thing i found is that 90% of used cars here are Japanese imports, or 30 yr old sheds that would have been scrapped 10 years ago in UK, selling for between $2k and $6k NZ. Anything else was well out of budget, so this left me with a Japanese import or a shed as my options, i decided to go for the Jap import, but that was not my only problem. Most Jap imports have Japanese buttons, FM and Nav. So my plan was to find something without Japanese buttons, it didn't take too long.

I found a 2010 Passat CC 2.0T with tan interior and fully loaded (with Japanese RNS510) (luckily, i could change the language to English but the Nav is obviously Japanese maps) but, most important, the hard buttons were all English. It only has 47k miles on it. (Japanese cars can only run upto so many kilometers before they start getting REALLY expensive to maintain). So anyway, i bought it, it cost $15k (about £7700), which is on a par with UK model prices - which again, is highly unusual for NZ!

My first task was to find out whether the maps could be changed on the RNS510, they can't on the JPN version unfortunately, plus the FM only goes up to 90mhz. Cue my search for an alternative, i checked a few forums, and found the Joying 9" touch screen system, Joying was recommended by a few people, so i ordered it from Ali Express for about $350 NZ (£185), plus the reverse camera adapter (£14), it took about 10 days to get over here, and no import duty to pay :D, anyway, spent the day fitting it today and i have to say, i'm quite impressed with it for the price. The sound quality is comparible to the RNS510 system (I've got the 10 speaker system in my car), it sounds much better than the audio did in my 5 series! The screen is really responsive and looks great. The centre console looks really clean too, my only criticism is the Joying label on the fascia. Anyway, now i just need to find some useful car apps for it. (recommendations?)
