I'm cooking something that says it needs dry wine. I don't drink wine but I'm not buying a bottle to use a half cup in a recipe and not drinking the rest whilst I'm cooking, because of this, I want something that tastes nice too ;)

For cooking purposes you can freeze wine in small containers (say 1-2 cup sizes) and then when ever needed just pull a frozen cup out.

I love wine so will tend just to drink the bottle and don't bother going to cheap so i still have a nice wine for the evening.

In south africa we had decent wine boxes, which were perfect for a quick glass to slurp, or to use in cooking. Haven't tried many box wines here, but all I have tried have been pretty close to vinegar.
Good tip about freezing wine D.P. - hadn't thought of that
