Hey folks, I realise this is probably a big ask, but could someone help me out with finding a spec that would allow me to play recent and soon-to-be-released games (such as dmc, bioshock infinite) within a very stringent budget of £400?

I have no parts that can be salvaged from an old base unit, so will need everything except for an OS included in the price (I will look for that separately). However, I do have a TV, mouse, keyboard.

I'd also be looking to upgrade in the near future, so something with a high level of compatibility would be great. I'm simply looking to make the initial jump into the PC gaming space at the moment.

If you are looking to allow you new build to allow future upgrades, I'd think about the release of Haswell as your new build, if purchsed before the next chip release, will only give you the ability to upgrade RAM, SSD & Graphics.

Haswell is the next gen Intel chip which is due for release in 3-4 months time, I would advise saving your hard-earnt cash and bang another £2/3/400 into your budget.

Otherwise, your looking at something like this:

If you do plan on upgrading in the future with a build like this, you'd only need to replace the CPU & motherboard.

Thanks for the suggestions, snips. Do you foresee the Haswell being a worthy upgrade and replacing both CPU and GPU in the suggested build?

Also, looking at the OCUK site, it seems there's an offer on for the 78xx series of cards when bought new. If I considered that to be a saving of around £50 (both Tomb Raider and Bioshock being games I'd buy), and added that to my build cost, could the spec be improved by much? I say this after looking at the MSI 7850 OC which is at £149.99, instantly taking £30 of that budget away.
