"Cheap" Entry Level DSLR

The D3100 is now under £300 with kit lens. This has really thrown a spanner in the works as I could easily get hold of a better lens with the £100 I'd save.

What second hand lens would be worth getting? and would I be worth going for the "worse" camera and a "better" lens?

I picked up a d3100 off here just after xmas for 190 with lens and bag. Still gettong used to ot, but I rhink the quality of the pictires have been greag so far.

I cant remember his name but if you look in the members market for d3100 for sale there was a guy selling one on here last month.

I too am seriously looking to get into DSLR scene and the D3100 is at the top of the list within my limited budget, I'm now keeping an eye on that auction site or the MM on here to see if a used kit with lens for under £200 comes along ;)

Does seem a bargain at £300 however I'm still unsure on this:

D3100 is fantastic for the money. And you'll be able to pick up a Canon 550D with 18-55mm IS lens for around £250 if you keep your eyes open.

It really depends on what suits you, go to a shop and try some out. Buying a camera that you're uncomfortable with is a waste.

The canon outlet on ebay were doing the 1100d with kit lens recently for £177
Refurbished with 1 year warranty which looked a good deal.

I recently bought a Canon 400D, with standard 18-55mm lens, a Canon 50mm f1.8 II Lens, a set of 4 filters, a polarising filter, a wireless remote, a Lowepro carry bag, 2 compact flash cards all for £210 delivered from AVForums.

I know someone with a D3100 and he managed to get some of his photos onto the official Nikon page with it.

First "I don't have a clue" question, what do different lenses do? Are they mainly for different distances and light levels?

Would the Nikon D3100 be a better choice than the EOS 1100D if I could find one?
yeah the D3100 is the better of the 2
