My GTX 460 has been artifacting so I replaced it for an old Radeon 1950pro, however it doesn't support the entirescreen of my 24' monitor, there's an inch of blackness around the desktop!

Since doing away with my gaming system I only use this machine for browsing the web but would like a card good enough to watch iplayer HD programmes.

Any suggestions for a cheap card which will give me a full desktop (1980x1280 I think)?

HD 5770 would probably be suitable and is fairly inexpensive.. depends tho on what you would class as cheap, got a price in mind?

If it's a widescreen monitor then the resolution will likely be 1920x1200 or 1920x1080.

A Radeon 1950pro will easily support that resolution for desktop use so if it isn't then there's something wrong with your setup.

Check what resolution your PC is currently set to.

Alyernatively a cheap £20-£25 card will do what you need.

Possibility it may struggle to play consistent smooth HD though? at £50 I think you could probably get a 5670 if we are talking a card you can still buy.

Hi there, May I ask what make and model number monitor you are using and what connection are you using to connect it to the graphics card?

I ask because the X1950 pro can support resolutions up to 2560x1600 using a digital connection.

I would suggest installing the latest catalyst drivers that support your graphics card/OS, set the display resolution to the native resolution of your monitor and then go into the catalyst control centre and ensure that overscan is set to 0%.

It's currently at 1400 x 1050 which is the highest it will go to in Display Properties

It's a Hanns G 24 widescreen using a DVI connection

I've downloaded the legacy driver package but on installation I get an error message telling my my hardware isn't supported, even though the 19XX series is stated in the release notes.

It was the DVI connection which restricted desktop size with this old videocard.

I was unable to install the Hanns G driver disc as it was for Vista/W7 only, as soon as I connected using VGA it went to fullscreen.

The ATI Legacy drivers wouldn't install so went through old drivers one by one & have 1920 x 1080 using 8.391.0.0
