Graphics cards are very confusing so i seek the advice of the wise denizens of this forum. Is it possible to get a Graphics card that can happily run Team Fortress 2, not unnecessarily on the highest settings, for £40 or less, and if so, which one?

Edit: Forgot to specify PCI-E.

Ran ok (medium settings) on my 7800GT OC, so anything around or above this nVidia wise will do you well.

Second hand 7800's are cheap as chips.

Well, im kinda picky....

By 'OK' I mean ran at a vsync-ed 75fps constantly on a 1440x900 monitor, which meant turning things down to medium on some areas, HRD off, etc.

If I could tolerate lower framerates Id have had higher settings, but that fraps counter just doesnt look right at anything under 75 :)

I have noticed similar things, but more in the way that a larger full server with a lot of people with poor pings tends to affect my framerate..... not entirely sure how

Any chance you can post your system specs so we get a rough idea what hardware the gfx will be running with.

Also do you have TF2 running on your machine atm and what gfx are you using if you are.
 
Just remembered, I still have my old 7800GT sat on my desk.....

Its nothing but the card and the breakout cable for connecting to a TV via svideo and composite... nothing else. No box, no manual, no wires, nothing....

Do I want to bother selling, or is it nice to just keep as a spare temporary card for when my main one is replaced/breaks etc....

Yeah it's the graphics card. Ever since I got it, it has never performed that much better than my x1950XT gfx card. Since I've had it I have replaced my motherboard, changed ram, overclocked my cpu, changed hdd and nothing has changed i nregard to its performance.

Maybe a PSU issue?? And with the hdd change I assume you tried a fresh install.
 
I can't really tell you the full system specs and second hand isn't a good option because it's a gift for a friend who recently bought TF2 and found her PC couldn't run it(built in graphics so not really surprising). I think she has a 3GHz single core processor and I'm sure she has 1GB DDR2 RAM.

A recommendation for a new card within the price range that can run it, even on low settings, would be greatly appreciated.

Eg. is this going to run it at a playable fps? We're talking low settings and not that bothered by ultra-high frame rates here. As long as she can shoot me in the face with a rocket I think she'll be happy. :)
