Hi chaps,

Any reason to stray away from cheap ink cartridges? Currently looking to print a lot of full colour pages and it seems much cheaper to go for a couple of dozen 'Compatible' cartridges vs the OEM ones.

Do they contain less ink? I assume the colour quality might be a bit iffy but is there anything else to watch out for?

We've had a couple of packs before and they do seem to need changing before they 'feel' empty, is this normal?

Printer in question is an Epson SX415.

Thanks!

i use compatible ink on my old Canon IP4300, dont see any difference.
i even had to buy an original blue one, one day printing invites, and i couldnt tell the difference.
i have to get the ones with a little microchip on them, so if your printer needs it, make sure to get them.

On a different note, on my mums printer, iirc its an Epson, i got her a set of compatible ink, and we could see the difference easily, the cheap ink looked dull and not vibrant. But there are different qualities of cheap ink.

just buy a set of 4 or how many you need, and give them a try, if good, then just buy a bulk order,
if ****, either try a different brand or go back to original

my epson r300 is 6yr old and has only ever had copy inks in it, becouse they have a chip on the side they do show empty when there is usualy about 7% left. if you get scs printer reset tool off the net you can reset them to full untill they completly run out

I go one step cheaper than compatibles and buy the ink/toner in bottles. Then its just a case of drilling up the cartridge for refilling, my canon tends to go for about 6-10 ink refills before stuff gets dodgy and toner goes for about 2-3 refills before the drums get too dirty.

I always use compatibles/refilled , saved about $1000 since last year on consumables (i print a lot). I'd recommend going for compatibles , if not , refilled.

Got my CISS setup and working! 50 full colour pages and counting, barely seen the ink level move. I'd highly recommend them if your printer is compatible and you don't mind the ink being outside of the printer.

Under £20 for the whole setup with 4x100ml bottles (C/Y/M/B) and I've done more printing than 5x sets of compatible cartridges already.
