Hi there,

My servers PSU looked to have died, replacing it gave me nice stable voltages but I think the mobo/cpu or something has taken some damage as the windows randomly shuts down after a short amount of time and even chkdsk from recovery console powers itself off.

So time for new internals. While I am at it I figured I may as well do the gf's also as it is ~7 years old and slow

Got one new PSU and will reuse one case and optical drives etc. Just going to be used for tv capping, daily backups and web browsing so I figure on board graphics will be OK.

Any thoughts ?
I can spend more but dont want to needlessly

When I use the word server what I really mean is a computer that wont be doing much. Cheap and cheerful is what I am after

It's a bit hard to tell which parts are going in which machine. Is the ram being split 2gb per computer?

I wouldn't wish a £28 psu on anyone, and would certainly move up a tenner to the basic corsair. The last low spec build I did was cheapest corsair psu/4gb ram/intel G41 board/e8400, and that turned out to be far quicker than was needed. So I suspect she'll love whatever combination of that she gets.

Yeah splitting the ram. Would rather have 2x1Gb sticks but there doesnt seem to be any cheap ones in. Might get the 400w psu but the cheap one is still an Antec and it isnt going to be powering a whole lot.

Looks like I cant go that far wrong on the main internals though.

Yeah 2 separate machines that will be pretty much identical for the major components. Spending more than I have got in the basket isnt a problem as such but I am after value for money and any extra needs to be worth spending
