My inlaws are looking to get a new computer but only really need it for internet and MS Office applications.

Can anyone recommend a build?

They have the basics, hard drives, keyboard, mouse, monitor but would need the rest.

I am not too sure about lower end of market so would appreciate your advice.

Graphics card could be onboard as no games will be played on it.

Thanks

I have to say that I am partial to Intel.

Ive owned AMD and Intel and AMD has always given me a huge headache, with drivers, incompatabilities, etc. I persevered with AMD, but after all the trouble, I gave up on them and decided to go back to Intel with their rock solid software/driver support.

I think 1337z0r has nailed the spec. This is the 2nd thread in a row where I have said that. Plus you get to overclock a little with that CPU.

I know this is way off topic and I'm in no way saying to get the AMD over the Intel as your thinking is solid Bloodline. I have just moved from an AMD system and I never had any of the problems that you've mentioned Sunama???. Also my mother and a few of my m8's are on AMD machines and they too have never had any problems?. My mother's PC that I built her has been overclocked and running flawlessly for over a year now. I'm sorry but I have to disagree with what you have said as I've never knew of any problems and I've used AMD for while. Oh and I used the 9800Pro, X800, X1900XT, 2900Pro too with no problems what so ever also.

Obviously we all have our own opinions. Even my mate who is currently running an AMD PC is having major problems. He is bailing out and moving over to Intel as the cost saving just isnt worth the hassle.

From what I have noticed, Intel offer a true plug and play experience, while an AMD PC generally needs the right combination of drivers/software to ensure perfect running. But that is just my opinion. Other people may have better luck.

Yes it is totally opinionated but you and now your friend are the first people I've heard that have had trouble with AMD. I've used lots of different motherboards/chipsets with Socket 754, 939 and AM2. Different RAM, different graphic cards, different Hard Drives and not once has there been a problem. This is why I commented.

The system I'm running now was just as easy to set up as the AMD rigs that I've messed about with or owned. No differences between the two companies except for speed. This CPU @ 3.2Ghz beats my old X2 3800 @ 2.8Ghz easily.
