Currently have the following:

Opty 146 @ 2.7Ghz
1Gb G.skill LE PC4400 - 2x512Mb - (F1-3200DSU2-1GBLE)

Memory is running 1:1 with the Opty at 270Mhz

Need to go upto 2Gb memory with as little outlay as possible , whats the best way.

1. Try and get some more of the G.skill and have 4 sticks in there (won't need to upgrade again as I'll change the whole rig next time round)

2. Sell the G.skill 2x512Mb and use the proceeds to get a 2Gb (2x1Gb) set? in which case which one to be able to run the mem 1:1 @ 270Mhz.

3. Any other option ???

Any advise?

Tbh used memory at a certain auction site will be pretty much the only option for getting high-speed 2x1gb DDR1 these days.

Hmmmm.... which of the 2 option above is best to keep my 270FSB with memory 1:1 at 270Mhz?

4 x 512mb or 2 x 1Gb ?? if 2 x 1Gb which is ones should I go for.

You'll need to drop to 2T with 4 sticks, and you'll probably not get as high an overclock with 4 sticks either.

A 2x1gb set is definitely the better option, but finding some that can do 1:1 at 270mhz will probably be tricky and almost certainly expensive. I'd just get some decent PC3200 and stick them on a divider.

There is a manufacturer selling PC4000 2x1GB DDR1 on their website, but at £160! That's rated at 250MHz, so it would probably run at 270, but the price is a joke.
