HP DL180 G6 (SE326M1) ?
12 Bays hot swap bays and can be had cheaper than that Logic Case on it's own.
Don't want to kidnap the thread but thanks to this have been looking / thinking about this option instead of the Synology in the thread title
It will primarily be used for Plex storage - I already have 20TB of BR rips, and have over 50 4k BR's sitting behind me (not to mention the BR's I have yet to rip) when the ripping software becomes available
Currently running an i3-4130 3.4Ghz with 32gb ram and a random selection of 3tb drives & DSM 5.2, but desktop case / expandability is maxed out and want to do it right this time and leave myself headroom for the future.
Is it better to go for a single 3GHz 6 core, or dual 2.4GHz quad core? I'm thinking 16Gb ram would be ok if going single cpu but 32gb if going dual? Ram speed shouldn't be too relevant I'm hoping, but happy to be corrected.
Thinking a single 4 port gigabit card should be good enough for 2 clients max (as much for the copying the data over as for playback duties) , know I will need to get a managed switch for link aggregation but that's for another thread
Will probably start with 6*8TB Reds in RAID 1 to start with (to save money at the very least) and buy in pairs after that - at the start that will leave me with about the same free capacity I have right now but with 6 free bays for when funds allow, anyone have better suggestion than Reds currently?
I have no idea what raid cards I need though or what OS to use - was thinking Windows Server 2016 but even doing a quick google there are multiple options even under / around the £100 mark, so any suggestions really appreciated
It sounds like I will have to change the fans on this, as its going to be pretty close by
