Is there any benefit paying £8 for a patch lead when there are cheaper (£3) available. If the cheaper ones cable test fine, then is there any issues with using them instead?

I am trying to tidy up a cabinet and for the amount I need it would be quite expensive to use the higher priced ones.

Cables are one of those things that seem to attract excessive mark-ups. If the spec (cat5e etc.) is the same then there is no real way to tell whether you'd be buying better quality or just filling someone's pockets.
If it's cat5e patch leads, and shortish lengths, then £3 each seems way OTT.

Make your own. If you get through a decent amount (or can sell them to people you know), just buy a reelex box and have done with it.

Just buy your own 50m or 350m reel, some nipples (as we used to call them :) AKA RJ45 Connectors) and a crimp tool, then you can have as many as you want, at what ever length you want

This... I've still got a massive bag of RJ45 connectors here when the supplier sent me bags of 10 instead of individual connectors. Never thought I'd be able to say I had a bag of nipples :o.
