Any know of a good cheap place on the net to buy eu domains with a Solo card? Most of the websites I've been to don't accpet Solo cards:(

Cheers:)

Don't bother with 123-reg when it comes to eu domains. I've been a customer of theirs for years without any problems until it came to this!

For one thing, the checker for eu domains on their website doesn't actually work, its just a gimmick. i attempted to pre-register a few domains and it turns out they were actually already taken in the sunrise period. Had this checker thing told me i wouldn't have attempted it. I'll get the money back, but i still had to pay a lot on the vat. Also i've had numerous problems with them taking my bank details when it came to buying these. i use the card all the time and theres plenty of money there. seems like a right messup with this company.

Todays the launch day and they still havn't updated their site! Makes me think i'm going to loose out on what i want.

All the websites I checked all gave me different results:(
Which website has the uptodate eu checker?

mydomain.com if offering them at $19 per year or so but I don't think they'll accept Solo. I'm also looking to register but a UK based site is preferable.

the main one is: http://www.whois.eu

you can even check to see how many applicants there are for certain domains and see the progress from there. Thats how i found out certain ones i wanted were already taken. It seems that the sunrise period, would have been quite easy to get into with some effort as by judging by the accepted notes, some are literally given away to some right shifty looking companies(people!!!!) however there is the option to dispute the decision within 7 days of the decision. i might serious try this for the weekend.

When you say "Taken" during the Sunrise period before you attempted to order the domains or were they just applied for?
If the domain had actually been activated and you were still able to apply for it then yes - they were in the wrong.
However the .eu registry not only invited, they encouraged multiple applications for each domain.
The idea being that they were in a first come/first served situation.
If the paper work didn't get submitted by the first person then the second in line would be considered etc.
We applied for a .eu domain that we were actually 4th in line for and we've actually got it - because the first 3 applications all failed as they didn't/couldn't provide the back-up paperwork.

Even now there are thousands of domains which have not been sorted out.
Go to the .eu WHOIS and you'll see that in the majority of cases where there is more than one application it still hasn't been decided who gets it.
Applying during Sunrise was extremely straight forward - you didn't have to provide any kind of paperwork at all.
I could have applied for a .eu with just my name.
However once my application had gone through and the domain switched status to "Application Pending" I'd then have 40 days to provide the backup paperwork.
Without this you are not getting the domain - simple as that.

The Sunrise period for .eu domains was quite complicated and misunderstood by many (us included before we spent nearly a week going through all the various FAQ's etc).
The SUnrise period also isn't over with the advent of Landrush.
For example anyone who applied for a domain during the Sunrise period, even though we now in Landrush, have to abide by the Sunrise rules.
Example being somebody who pre-registered a domain yesterday.
Just because we are today in Landrush, their application is still fully subject to Sunrise rules and they will have 40 days to provide the required paperwork to backup their application or else they won't get the domain and it will become available to all once more.

When i initially applied for them 123-reg said they were available. Their search facility doesn't do anything; it must simply wait a few seconds then say its available anyway. It even does that if you have paid and pre-registered domain names through them. I think thats very wrong. They gave me false information and took money based on my misconception.

It wasn't until last night (early morning friday) that i started to wonder about them. No word from 123-reg, so i found where i could see the whois information. Turns out there had been many applications made against it. most had expired (no docs provided) and a couple were rejected. One of them was accepted! Thats what i meant by taken. Thanks for telling me 123-reg-up-yo-arse!

I have a few other domains which still arn't taken/applied for and 123-reg have not told me anything and their site is still wanting pre-registrations. Now i fear i might loose out. Even though i had planned to obtain some for myself, some were for the company i work for and i took on the responsiblity of obtaining them. Now it looks like i might not get them.
