I ran a door opening/clocking in system on Windows XP box with a 1.5GHz P4, 256MB RAM and a 20GB HDD (with data from the card readers stored on the network), so I doubt you'll need much more piff
 
ideally needs to be in a rack as we have 3 cabinets with various rack mounted kit, so needs to be neat and fit in the comms room which is getting filled quickly.
HP DL120 G7 looks good, suppose it just comes as the server and I would need to install hd's and windows to it#?

If you have a 3rd party that deals with your repairs of servers and can be added to a support contract, you can pick up a DL120 G6 or DL360 G6 for pennies on eBay (<£300)
 
The main difference between R2xx and R3xx is dual psu in the R3xx, if you have a ups or dual feeds then its worth going for the 320 imo, I just purchased one on wed
