I'm looking for a cheap and reliable 1tb NVME. Speed not as important, as long as it's reasonable for a NVME SSD. Its for a NAS cache - i.e. files are written here and either temporarily held or moved to spinning disks

Looking at the Crucial P3, WD SN570 and Kioxia Exceria G2.

Would I be mistaken in thinking that the G2 is a good choice as it uses TLC memory?

Any alternatives I've missed?

SN570 uses TLC as well, according to the datasheet, as does the newer version (SN580). The WD drives have higher rated endurance too (400 v 600 and 800 v 900).

Slightly more expensive but SK Hynix Gold worth a look (can currently get them £20 off in a few places) - have some of the best low power usage so ideal for small enclosures and laptops, etc. and decent endurance. Performance wise always good but a few surprises - for gaming loading they can actually outperform some of the better NVMEs by a slight but not negligible amount i.e. more than a second quicker.

I'm currently using a Samsung 980 for similar use as a front end cache for my latest NAS setup but got it when they were on discount awhile back (totally worth doing as things like opening a folder full of thumbnails over the network is soooo much quicker).

I'd get the SN570/580 personally.

I'd avoid QLC if the primary purpose is caching especially considering TLC drives like the SN570 are similarly priced.
