I'm considering getting a cheap saloon for the year basically, as the more exciting cars i'm after are just out of budget due to recent massive spending sprees on plasma's / pc upgrades and other silly stuff!. Ideally something that is unlikely to cost me much and then be able to sell on (preferably easily) at not a huge loss.

Besides, in a way i'd like to try a car thats a lot more anonymous for a while just to feel like i can park it anywhere.

What are my options? I don't like the idea of a mondeo, or a vectra, i don't mind the idea of an 01/02 plate accord but curious to know what you guys can think up?

The whole point is to avoid something remotely sporty looking btw, and it has to be a saloon and really nothing that will grab anyones attention.

Budget £1k-£2k :) I have more available but any higher and i'm surely completely defeating the purpose i'm setting out to do.

I think technically they are a hatchback but take a look at the Nissan Primera GT

Might be what your looking for.

Peugeot 406. A 2000 mk2.

Come standard with loads of toys, one of the best looking saloons but not that showy. A ride that puts others to shame, good handling, excellent diesels, reasonable petrols. Reliability is good, one of the best for french cars. Some of the gadgets may play up but mechanically they are very good (that's why theres so many of them as taxis!)

In fact, if you don't mind a bit of parking damage, you can have mine! ;)

sorry, to clarify i mean "big" ..as in lots of legroom at the front! so a hatchback is possible :)

I'll check them out, thanks :)

That xsara a few threads down looks great value.

OUt of curiosity, any reason you want a car to be anonymous or not get a second look? I'd say a lot of cars would naturally fall in that category.
