Cheap Route

Well I will not be having a 306 HDi thats for sure.

Did another 100 miles in my mates one yesterday as he wasn't feeling too good.

I'm afraid it does not pick up fast enough. The Saxo feels far more quicker, probably because it's a smaller, lighter car but the throttle response in the Saxo seems spot on.

Gonna struggle to replace the fun & fast factor me thinks

Get a T series.

This man is the win.

If you're on a tight budget, sod the Coupe. Everyone wants one of them and they demand a high premium.

Get yourself a 220 GSi hatchback for a couple of hundred quid. All of the mod cons of the Coupe (except full leather and air-con) in a stiffer shell. Group 13 though, but for what you save on the car you can spend on the insurance.

What about HGF though? I'm not the typre of person to keep a car when it breaks down :D

I just want to bin it

The 220's have the T-series engine. It's very rare for these things to suffer HGF. If it's on its original gasket, it can leak a bit of oil from the front of the block, but it's not the end of the world.

Chances are though, it will have had a Klinger fitted (uprated gasket). If it's been done properly, it probably won't need doing ever again.

Go over to ocuk-motors.co.uk and look at pictures of my old one to help you with your decision ;)

Oh, look what decided to show its face... Click

Ahh great cheers, what are the 0-60 stats on the 220's?

I'm not sure why, but I prefer the bubble 200 to the older shape........waits for telling off :D

So that'll be 'none of the mod cons of the Coupe' then given electric windows can hardly be described as 'mod cons'.

You'll probably get bored of the 306 very quickly.

I did within two months of owning it.

Why? Does it not feel that fast?

Or is it the thought in the back of your mind that you could lose it if you push it to far?

No, the 306's rear suspension set up means push it and it will most probably end up in tears.......where as a Saxo will carry on going (on it's rails) :p

they're both based on exactly the same setup mate :p

I think you're going on a bit too much about the Saxo's handling - sure, its a tidy handling car, but there's better out there :)

Yeah they handle ok. I had a play with a mate in his ST170 yesterday, on the straights he left me however he could not corner any quicker and was left a little shocked by the little cars grip. :)

How different is the suspension on the RS compared to 170?

I am aware they are based on the same setup but the 306 is quite a bit heavier.

Probably very different I would imagine as the RS had a lot of parts that none of the other Foci had.
