First venture into this section. I am looking at setting up an iTunes based multi-room audio system with a combination of AppleTVs and AirPorts.

Initially I am going to ceiling mount speakers upstairs and run them into the loft where I will amplify them and store the airports for each room. For the time being it is just the 2 bathrooms which will each have 2 x 15w waterproof speakers so just need an amp to run 4 x 15w speakers. What are the cheapest/best options for me?

Second hand arcam alph of the bay would do that job with ease and it's in the loft so size isn't going to be an issue.

I'd be interested in hearing about this too as I've got something similar planned when I have the cash! Just out of interest, what waterproof speakers did you go for for the bathrooms? I couldn't seem to find any decent ones that I liked..

Also interested in an amp for similar purposes however I dont want it in the loft as I want access to turn it on or off so the smaller the better so it will fit under my desk (wires will be run up the wall with current network cables)

I don't want to come over all health & safety, but just be a bit careful leaving mains powered amps running in a loft. Lofts get really cold in winter and mad hot in summer. Plus, the gear is out of sight, so if there's a leak...

I'd suggest running the amp in a cupboard somewhere in the house where the temps are a little more even and you can keep an eye on the gear, especially if it's secondhand.

Can an amp only "amplify" 1 channel at a time? As in if I have 2 AirPorts each broadcasting different music each on their own channel on the amp would the amp output both channels at the same time or would I need to switch between them? If so I guess I just need a small inline amp between the speakers and the airports?
