Cheap sofas?

CSL after seeing that documentary this week on tv.

But seriously look on Ebay. We have just bought a 6 month old Tetrad leather sofa which cost £2200 for £800. Your money goes much further buying 2nd hand and you get the quality which will last.

The thought of sitting on someone else's bodily fluid doesn't appeal to some people.

find a bespoke sofa shop, can make the sofa to the depth you need it(leg length is important). style and fabric, we had 2 sofas one being a sofa bed made in 3 days for £500. really excellent quality.

CSL are a northern chain and don't deliver to London. I have been looking at second hand stuff, only problem being it is all collection only.

Same problem here but Ebay has a man wih a van auction service. We had 50 people bid for the collection job with the lowest quote been £52 for a 80 mile delivery so it's not a problem.

This was from a PR office reception but funnily enough the first thing my mate said when I told him what I bought was "Imagine how many people have ****** on that sofa" I thought it was less likely having come from an office but who knows! lol

Anyway it's hide leather so I gave it a good clean and wax polish before I used it so any bodily fluids should be gone now (I hope).

'Nabru' might have something in your price range. Can design your own 'U' and courner sofas too. Might be worth a look. Their showroom is in Uxbridge, I've been considering them but would have to go and check they aren't awful obviously.

sweat and things seep through into the fabric... Look at this arm rest (about half way down on th eleft) http://www.strathvalefurnishings.co.uk/ekornes.htm

I thought the likes of DFS etc only took credit for sofas. I remember when my friend tried to buy a sofa outright, they wouldn't accept cash as a payment as they only sold sofas on credit.

I might be wrong as it was about 5 years ago.

if you are not in a rush get one from the bay....

second hand they are worthless...

a year old £1000 soft is gonna go for £200...

as long as there is not a rush and you can wait until the one you want thats not too far or old pops up its great...

£500 is cheap?!?!

I picked up an immaculate, very comfortable, second hand leather sofa for £85 once.

Second hand is always good as people sell them dirt cheap, as they can't be bothered with the hassle of shifting/disposing of them.

Charity shops, can get some bargains, nice big comfy old fashioned sofas. AS long as its been well cleaned you're sorted. My gfs family got a 3 piece suite for £20, it was so comfy but now they've replaced them with cheap leather tat which cost a fair few hundred and is rubbish in comparison D:

I am moving out in 2 weeks and as a present my mum has offered to buy me a sofa up to the value of £500. I am having a bit of difficulty finding something to buy.

I keep reading reviews saying all the big chains are rubbish, but I don't know if they are rubbish or just rubbish in comparison to more expensive brands.

Where should I be looking?

Depends what you are after, for £400 after a bit of hagling from my the Christian Furniture shop I managed to get a mint condition 6 month old real leather corner sofa that would normaly be much more, being on a tight budget and with the only other sofas in that price range being fake leather, and much smaller this was a bargain for me.

Lots of second hand stuff can be pants but if you find the right shop, you can get some decent stuff for a good price, just remember to haggle a bit!

What one did you get?

My girlfriend has decided that these look 'cheap' and has vetoed the idea.

I'd agree with that, I was looking to get a Nabru sofa in the past, but the more I looked in to it, the "cheaper" they started to look, until I was completely put off the idea of them. I ended up getting a huge "Barcelona" corner sofa off ebay for £250.

Get a Fatsac (Very Big fits two comfortably, three if you're friendly!) and ask for a couple of scatter cushions. Not particularly traditional but super comfy due to basically being a huge lump of memory foam pieces, can squeeze through any doorway and compared to sofas are priced quite cheaply. Can sit on it any number of ways, the cover is removable/replaceable and machine washable depending on the fabric you choose (I have Jumbo Cord). I have a Very Big which dominates my bedroom which will be my sofa when I move out.
