Myself and a mate are thinking about getting a cheap trackcar which we can use on the Ring and also on local trackdays :)

I've got a Golf GTI out at Germany at the moment, stored at the ring but we wont strip this out this due to it having a lot of family history.. So one thought is to bring that back to england and then take another Golf (stripped and prepped) out :)

Budget is about £1000 :)

Any other suggestions, links to motors etc.

Rover turbo, £600 buy an average one, £100 max for larger front brakes from a 620ti or ZS180, braided hoses, boost controller, cut slicks cheap enough on standard size 195/50/15 fits over, koni shockers and a front brace, should run to about a grand.

Strip it out, should see you having about 200bhp/200lb/ft of torque and weigh about 1100-1200kg depending on how much weight you take out.

I'd go for a VTS Saxo, stripped you must be talking around 850-900kg if not less, standard brakes are big enough (256mm back and front I beleave, good setup for such a light car) just upgrade the pads/discs if you want more braking power put a set of 306 HDI brakes on. Then slam it and fit a roll cage. That would be one very quick car round the twistys and not too shabby on the straights and there should be no real reliabilty problems.

e30 318iS. I've brought mine to two trackdays and as long as you have some half decent tyres (I like toyo T1-R for the dry), it'll outhandle so many other things and it inspires so much confidence. Better drivers car than the e36, quicker and handles better.

Good, non minters can be had for £600+ pretty easily. I'm considering getting another just for trackdays

£150 will get a chip, air filter and throttle body mod which'll give you around 160bhp.

Chevette or Kadett.

Car - 200-400

shocks - 100 secondhand
springs - 100ish (custom)
2.0 8v family II engine - 50
5 speed getrag 'box - 50
bike carbs and manifold - 100-200
exhaust - 50
axle - 100
sump and mounts - 100
brakes (mk1 carlton discs, Volvo calipers) - 50-80

strip it, save for a cage, seats and harnesses and you have a 150bhp, sub 800kg car that handles great :D

Part of the fun!

I would say the Chevette/Kadett idea is a very solid on. I bet right fun too. Would love one for the back lane blasts, annoyingly I prefer the Kadett which seems to be more rare.
