Cheap V6 options?

350Z ;) but I am biased.

Not HUGELY fast, but round a track I was evenly matched with an E46 M3.

Get the GT pack, it's comfortable, great for cruising, and seldom betrays its weight as it handles very well.

Every time I get in it, it just brings a lot of satisfaction - it's predictable, reasonably easy to maintain (if you're happy to do it yourself), sounds amazing, has enough torque and power to make driving a breeze, but if you want to thrash it it can take it in its stride.

I also think they look stunning and still stand out a lot compared to a lot of other cars.

On the motorway it'll do well over 30mpg so it's not that bad either!

If you can stretch to the HR (2006+) model go for that, as they have a bit more power (313), they've been known to remap with breathing mods to well over 330.

They drift nicely too :D

A different beast to the other suggestions, but, in the typical spirit of OcUK Motors and suggesting the car you own...

Mitsubishi Galant/Legnum VR-4

A 4 door saloon or 5 door estate, with a 2.5 litre, 24 valve, twin-turbo V6, producing around 280bhp. Full-time 4WD with the Evo running gear, including the go-faster-round-a-corner Active Yaw Control technology. Choice of 5 speed auto (which is very good, and well suited to the car) or 5 speed manual.

Disadvantages: They're older than your other choices (the newest being a 2002). However, their age, and relative obscurity, means that £3k will probably get you an absolutely spotless example, with ~£1500 giving you access to most of them that are available for sale.

If the OP wants fun and reliability, S2000. Most sixes tend to be not only more powerful and faster, but also heavier, which tends to be counter-productive from a "fun" perspective.

Hi all,

Many thanks for the input.

I've allowed my heart to rule my head (and bank balance!) for once.

Will be picking up a 2004 350Z on 14th April all being well....

Will post back when the deal is done!

:D

Do you think I'll notice much difference between this and my VW Lupo 1.0E? ;)

Don't forget than any of the VAG VR6 options will need Haldex oil and filter changes every 20k (oil) and 40k (filter) as well as DSG servicing unless a manual.

mk4 V6 4motion is a good call for general reliability and cheapness but not the most exciting (I had one and loved it though).

BMW 330ci would probably be my shout for this budget and criteria. There are so many around that they are surprisingly cheap (but lots of abused ones and their commonality may be a less enticing factor).

Other VAG VR6's to consider are the A3 3.2, mk1 TT 3.2 and the mk4 or mk5 R32 if you can find one in budget.

I'd say 330ci though.
Golf mk4 R32
Audi TT mk1 3.2 V6

EDIT: Just seen you've decided already so ignore me :)
