Posting another offer I found to you OcUK people.

I see a lot of users recommend Vidahost/TSOhost but they are really expensive compared to other hosts so here's another gem I found.

For reference only-

Vidahost - Shared

HDD 500mb
BW 5GB
Hosts 1 Website
Email 5
Sub Domain 5
SQL 5
Parked Domains 2

£20/year

BuyVM - VPS

HDD 15GB
BW 500GB
Hosts UNLIMITED Websites
Email UNLIMITED
Sub Domains UNLIMITED
SQL UNLIMITED
Parked Domains UNLIMITED
128mb Dedicated RAM (256 Burst)
1 Dedicated IPv4 IP
16 Dedicated IPv6 IP

£10/year

Also if you're wondering what's the difference between Shared hosting and a VPS, check out this page: http://www.vidahost.com/virtual-dedicated-servers/what-is-a-vds
In short-
shared hosting is worst (sharing server resources with many users 100+)
virtual private servers is in middle (sharing with less users <40 -i spoke to admin for this figure-)
dedicated is best (no sharing)

So why pay double for much much less?

The VPS provider is ran by a well respected member on WHT so you can be sure this is not an overnight company!

NOTE: I am not affiliated in anyway with Frantech/BuyVM

£10 a year? Think you mean a month.

I have used hosteuopre and webfusion for many years and their support and reliabily has been second to none.

I'd rather deal direct with the datacentre than through a reseller like that.

Yes but vidahost are reliable, good and don't over sell bandwidth or promise 'unlimited' anything which is clearly just a lie.

What makes you think Frantech/BuyVM is not reliable? Their owner (DeltaAnime) knows his stuff and always helps out in WHT forum. He's been in the webhosting business since 2003 and started his own company in 2007?

And for offering 'unlimited', the owner doesn't advertise this but as it is a VPS (virtual dedicated server) you can practically have unlimited domains/emails etc.
So next time do some research before you start spouting rubbish about a company you don't even know.

You actually believe that unlimited databases is a good idea? I'd like to see their response when a power customer turns up and completely abuses the "unlimited" nature of their product. It quickly becomes "limited".

Watch your attitude. We're not here to take digs and you've rolled 2 members.

gord, very valid point.

In my experience you get what you pay for. Packages like that just get abused at the cost of the people that legitimately want to have "low cost" hosting.

I suppose it depends what you want from a hosting provider.

Again if you read properly, unlimited DBs is not actually advertised but seeing as it is a VPS there is not actually a set limit.
The only limiting factor would be how much RAM you have for the VPS, that would determine how many DBs is possible.

If you're not interested in the offer, click the back button. No need to bash a company you don't even know.

If you don'e expect discussion on the subject then why post it on a forum?

Luckily, you are here to enlighten and correct us on the said company. For that I thank you.

Right, well I've never heard of these people before and this is my first impression. You are actively promoting them whether affiliated or not so what I am reading is this advertised line:

SQL UNLIMITED

If that is or isn't true, you have still written it and as such I have read it because I have done you the courtesy of taking my time to read properly.

So do you want to discuss their offer properly or just throw it at us, tell us it's great and rolleyes everyone who questions the details?

If you think a £10/year VDS which you have to manage yourself, without cPanel, on god-knows-what hardware with god-knows-how-many VMs per node, hosted somewhere in America by some kid on Web Hosting Talk is somehow going to be better than quality UK based shared hosting from an established provider with thousands of clients then..... good luck to you ;).

I got stung by cheapo American hosting in the past (google "Eryxma" and "Joe Sheikron", he too was 'popular' on WHT for a time). Never again.

Also "He's been in the webhosting business since 2003 and started his own company in 2007?"... so he IS inexperienced then.

That's a very simplistic view.

Shared hosting is fine. It doesn't have the complexities and performance hit of virtualisation.

VPS hosting is also fine when done right and when used for the correct application. But it's not ideal to be running virtualised copies of SQL databases which are I/O intensive. Everything that happens in a VM has a higher cost especially I/O. There is a lot of memory duplication occuring too. You might have 20 VMs with the same OS, all identical with the same image. But that doesn't mean there won't still be 20 copies of that OS loaded into memory. Basically VPS hosting is very wasteful of memory resources.

Dedicated... speaks for itself of course. It's your box so you do what you want with it. Turn it into a VM host even...

Take away all the unlimited stuff, which you can get from most VPS/Dedicated Servers and your just left with a mediocre 128 RAM server and a box that is slower then normal shared hosting.

No thanks!

You started a topic on it yet you expected no discussion!! Mind you it does read less like a topic and more like an advertisement.

The point myself and other members are trying to get across is that for a company to be able to offer a VPS for less than vidahost, (who are an established benchmark on this forum and in the hosting world) can offer a shared is instantly suspicious, especially when the word 'unlimited' is involved any where.

I've not had a problem with vidahost, Exilent service and VERY easy to use for a novice

I agree with all posters here that your offer/prices seem very suspicious indeed. As a web host myself, I find it incredibly difficult to believe ANY respectable company could afford to offer VPS packages for £10 per year!

I can't see any viable way of making a profit on that, very very suspicious. I reckon if you pushed anywhere even remotely near the bandwidth allowances you;d be booted for some odd "clause".
