Cheap, wide, monitor for work

This is going to be a vague question, sorry. I don't know enough to know what I want, if you see what I mean.

My work supplies a laptop and a desk monitor - the latter being a paltry 21".

I do a lot with Excel and the like, so a bigger, wider screen would be beneficial. But I don't think my employer would have any interest in coughing up for one. Because of this, I've always discounted the idea and gone on with what I have.

But a colleague was just raving about getting an (albeit old, ex display) a 32" extra wide HP display for £120! I reckon if I could get something which will make a large difference for a cost of as little as ~£100, I might be willing to dip a hand in my own pocket.

So, I guess I'm asking for recommendations on what can be bought cheap if your requirement is a decently large monitor, but there's no need for good response rates and the like which I'd care about if it was for gaming.

Thanks in advance for any help in either framing the question better, or suggesting a model to aim for!

iiyama ProLite XB3270QS - 2560x1440 32" - IPS screen so decent colour reproduction and can be had reasonably cheaply (~£260).

Have deployed over 50 of them at work, even reducing most older triple screen setups down to either 1 or 2 of these. Similar DPI to a 24" 1080P screen as well, so no eye strain and no need to increase size of desktop elements etc.

Did your employer rob museum or what?
That 21" would have been hindrance for work already decade ago, so gotta wonder from where that was found.

Instead of just some "ultrawide" marketing tern you need to look at also real vertical size/resolution.
Because that term is doublespeak for consuming more desk space for marketed size/low vertical image size.
Would consider 1200 pixels as absolute vertical minimum for such use.
And from commonly available monitors 2560x1440 would be best bang for buck.

I joined the company 5 years ago, and it's the brand new Dell monitor that was provided at the time, along with the Dell laptop.

Only got the 5 year old laptop replaced last month. And that was only because our company has been bought by another and they've been slowly updating us to the new company's stuff. Apparently monitor doesn't count for that though. :)

Both the laptop screen and the monitor (I use both) are running at 1920x1080 currently.
