Cheap Wireless Card

Hey guys,

BT have decided that my wireless card is slowing my internet down, as was my original conclusion. It's an old Belkin 802.11g PCI card. Could you give me a couple of ideas for cheap (tho half decent wireless cards). I'm on a very tight budget though...probably under £20 if that's possible?

That's what I was thinking. Would a cheaper one like this be fine though?

I reckon it would br fine, the other one will supposedly allow greater speed on the lan but the one you have chosen is cheaper to find out if it cures the problem or not

Are the OCUK one and the TP-Link one likely to be the same quality? I think that one with te single aerial will probably be fine though. I've no idea why you'd really need 300Mpbs over lan unless you were really anal about your gaming speeds.

I have no problem at all buying OCUK Value, the quality of the items I have bought has always been good.
I would go for the cheapest just to see if it solves the problem

Surely the best way to check if your wireless card is the problem is to use wired? Unless it is not possible?

I think the OCUK one will be great, thanks TFC.

I have checked the wired connection and that is flawless. Thing is though, that the card I'm using, until last Friday, was in an old XP machine. The internet connection on that was absolutely fine. It is quite old though. For £10 it's definitely worth it. Also, the connection can be great and then turns crap, so it's massively variable. I thought something else might be the problem. But, yeah, I think it's worth it.

Let me know how you get on with it... I am just about to order one for my daughters PC.
Your question got me thinking as I had fitted her system with an old card from a much older XP based system and eventually gave up as I couldn't get a driver that would work properly with W7, she now has a rather old Netgear usb adapter and the driver for that is a bit flakey... so maybe we both have a problem solved

I've ordered the OCUK one so I'll report back to you when I've got it. Hopefully it will indeed solve both our problems! They did ever update the driver for my old Belkin card either...
