Cheaper 8800GTS with less memory?

Quite a few games are starting to make use of 512mb of ram though, so I wouldn't be surprised to see reports of stuttering at high detail a few months down the line.

Is that only at high resolutions though?

doesn't matter if you play at 640x480 or 2048x1536 if the game loads 300-400+megs of textures and lots of high detail models/geometry a 256Mb (or 320 in this case) card is going to suffer compared to a 512+Mb card which would play it without a hitch.

300 USD is around £150. Which is roughly what Pro's are now... wonder when they will be releasing them?

Just about to buy a X1950Pro grr!

Question. Would this outperform a 1900xt 512mb at 1680x1050 res or be about the same?
If the amount of ram is enough it will be faster, if it needs to use system ram it will be slower.

If you play 2 games at once like I do i.e 2 x everquest (2 characters) using a graphics card with a X800XT PE 256MB you eventually run out of card memory & the graphics pixels go white & the game crashes.

When I upgraded to the HIS X1900 XT-X ICEQ3 512MB card the problem was solved  so yes there is a case for more graphics card ram & with more graphics intensive games 256mb cards will become obselete for future gaming in my opinion.

I doubt that was just the ram causing that.
Its probably the fact you were running 2 games at once was just too much for the much weaker card, the X800.
If it was a X1900 256MB you were using before than I may have accepted that!

Aye its kind of difficult to really know what caused it, the only thing I upgraded was the graphics card, maybe it was down to the amount of pixel shaders or something?

Or down to the fact that the X800XT PE is a massively inferior card to the X1900XTX ICEQ3...... probably the fastest ATI card around at the moment (IIRC the DDR4 on the X1950XTX makes it actually slower?), and if it is the TURBO version of the HIS, then it is faster at stock than almost any other XTX.

You are comparing a Lamborghini with a Audi TT, the X800XT PE is a good card, but it cant compare with the X1900XTX
