Cheaper to buy a PS3 in the long run?

It's like everyone has forgotten that these are consoles that play video games. Just get whichever has a more appealing library to you.

imo the C64 won the war years ago.

Is the way to go about it. Why pick a side when you can enjoy both.

Most people can't afford both, or do not have parents who can afford both. If everyone could afford both consoles these types of threads would be less frequent.

Admitting you bought the console for your fave games is not enough for most, they are only satisifed when they belittle the choices that others made :)

If someone with a PS3 posting an OP of "PS3 is better than the 360 because" wasn't going to be the start of something like this then I don't know what would.

What with this post, every PS3 exclusive game whenever it's going to be out (incl. PSN titles) getting multiple threads with "PS3 EXCLUSIVE" in the title and every 360 thread getting trolled (what 360 game next got "Killzone 2" and Avatar clothing got "Sold my 360 anyway so I don't care") it's making it quite an unpleasant place if you're not a PS3 fan boy.
I don't get why your using my post to say that this place has become unpleasant? I was merely making a quip about the OP not starting a war but rather a battle within the already raging and long fought console wars!!!

Think you need to take a chill pill!

Also it's well known that these forums have been very 360'centric for a long time... if anything they are more balanced now than ever and certainly are not anti 360 and pro PS3...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess...... I work hard for my pay so I guess it should have some rewards :p

tbh thought everyone should be able to get a C64 for a decent price off ebay now. There is no excuse ! :D

You've done exactly the same as he has, the only difference between you and him is that you will wear out the I M and O keys sooner than him.

Not really, I didnt make any broad statements, and try and push them as the truth according to everyone.

To further the point I made earlier, anyone who gives a damn about a console war and seriously argues in favour of one huge money grabbing multi national corporation over another is in fact clearly a retard.

That's not my opinion, it's a fact.

I bought a 360 years ago, when the 360 brand was 12 months old, I sold as it didn't have any games at the time.

I bought a PS3 a year later as I wanted blu-ray, a quiet system, great DVD upscaler, good avi support, built-in wireless.

If you just want a basic console and nothing more buy a 360, if u want more like I did then the ps3 is the winner!

You all should remember that uptil what 12months ago? the price of a standalone blu-ray player was £300-£500ish. This made the ps3 a steal!

I don't think it's quite a case of wanting to belittle others choices, more a case of purchase justification & a touch of jealousy - because the 'other' machine has got one or two games they secretly covet!!

But other than Mass Effect and Gears of War, Gears of War 2 on 360, I can't say the other exclusives are overly amazing.
And i can play Mass Effect and Gears of War on my PC, so not really exclusive, i bet good money Gears of War 2 will find it's way on the PC too. Nikkon was denying all this.

That's why i settled on the PS3
* All the exclusive games that are any good on the 360 are also available on the PC
* More reliable than the 360
* Quieter than the 360
* All games are on one disc, no disc swapping
* I want to switch to watching Blu-ray movies, this was a good way to get a decent BD player

i cant pick sides, its not in my nature at all. but i will get slated on these forums because the 360 offers me much more for my money when it comes to gaming, which is the only reason i bought my 360...4 months ago i might add, while ive had the ps3 since launch.

i bought the ps3 on launch because i had my sights on bluray movies. i wanted and i got and at the time, there was nothing else that came close to offering what the ps3 did for that sort of money. i say offer, because it was the cheapest bluray player at the time which sealed the deal anyway, but at the time the amount of decent games could be counted with two fingers - i didnt even need a full hand.

These days the market is quite different. You can pick up a 60gb and a bluray player for the price of the ps3 and ive said this before - it leaves the ps3 is a bad position. between a 360 and a stand alone bluray player they offer more of everything than a ps3 does. if ps3's were £100 cheaper it would be an irelivant argument but they arent.

Some people will need the extras with the 360, such as the wireless adaptor. ok fine but id personally rather plumb some ethernet cable in at 20p/meter, and i did just that..... what else do you need to buy for it? live gold ok - win to sony. or is it? you get a very good service from sony that you pay nothing for, or you get a better service from MS that you do pay for - Thats a choice you make. personally ive no problem paying ~£2.50 a month for a great live service.

So what about the games? well, the 360 has a far FAR bigger library of games, with some excellent games that can be had for next to nothing. the ps3 is nowhere near that. thats not to say there arent some great games on the ps3 because there are, but cheaper and more vaired for the 360. Actually the only thing thats been playing on my ps3 besides blurays is home, and thats my GF playing that.....

Ive no regret buying my ps3 but if you want a games console, its hard to recommend the ps3 at all for me unless you have to have one for some reason.

Love it - there's an outbreak of sensible debate on the the console 'war'.

If only we could always be this way!

You'll get the same questions from people who geniunly dont know and (predictable) the same answers from the same people again and again. There are very few people on these forums who are honestly unbiased and i could tell you what most of the usual posters will say before they say it - but thats like every other forum and it isnt unique to ocuk.

I found a couple of posts i made 18 months or so ago:

i love my ps3, one of the best purchases ive made. but then, i never bought it for the games lol. i bought it because its a first rate bluray player, a very good sacd player, a wireless media player, a half decent cd player, constantly updated, soon to be a pvr, blah blah ect ect. its an awesome machine in its own right and if you want those things, its blinding purchace.

edit: oh and i forgot, a very good dvd player.

its just a shame about the games.
...oh i like this post:

Agreed on most points. However:

1). Bluetooth (from a controller perspective) isn't really much of an advantage over RF, although obviously supporting up to 7 is a bonus.

2). Sixaxis isn't a plus point at all, it's rubbish.

3). HDMI - it's nice that it's standard of course, but it's not as big a deal now that 360s have it also (and not just the Elite).

4). The 360 has been able to output 1080p for a long time, via component (although most TVs won't accept 1080p via component), VGA and of course, HDMI so I don't see how this is a plus point.

5). Saying the XMB on its own is an advantage is a bit strange - it's very good, and as I stated in one of my previous posts I feel it's a little more "professional", so to speak. However it could be argued that the 360's interface is better - in other words, it's down to personal preference. I like 'em both
well, any of it is down to preference. the only thing set in stone is the build quality, thats something which affects everybody. the rest of it well..it depends on what you want doesnt it?
Probably the most accurate post ever in the history of this forum, now all we need is for the trolls to take it in.
thanks lol

.......That was August 07 people, come on now some of you guys still have the same biased views :(

In a thread on this same subect a few months ago (that was deleted lol) somebody actually tried to argue that bluetooth controllers was a plus point over the 360's RF, asking me "how often do you have singnal problems with the BT controller??". umm, no more often than i do with the 360 controllers.....that is to say 0 for either.

Perhaps one way around it is to just ignore obvious trolling posts. Far too often people are just sucked in to replying - thus setting the stage for the troll to continue spouting rubbish.

Hopefully if it was ignored, they'd soon get bored of not getting the reaction they crave so much (I'm probably being a bit too naive though!!).

The only thing I generally disagree with when people post this - I know the X360 has a much bigger library, but looking at quality games in that library the PS3 really isnt found that wanting. The last time I looked at metacritic (probably when I was deciding between the 2) at games rated as good (80% for me) the PS3 was still behind by a good ~40 games, but since it had 80 in that rating band I still think thats enough to be content with (as a percentage it sounds like hell of a big difference though)...

Also it really isnt that hard to find good games cheaply for the PS3, you just have to look. A lot of the games Ive got have been for around the £10 mark second hand. Since the last quarter the cogs seem to have been turning and games get cheaper a hell of a lot quicker than they used to - pre-ordering normally meant getting a new game cheap but now wait 2 weeks or a month and you can find it somewhere for less - high pricing for games was always a bugbear for me to be interested in console gaming especially before when no online ability could be had to increase longevitity...

I agree though the PS3 has no excellent games, only great ones ;):p:D

ps3ud0
