Cheaper to buy Gold Bar than a GPU!

The cheapest the 3080 has ever been is £649, so not quite £500. lol...

Covid + Crypto are the main culprits behind the GPU shortages, anything that does go up for sale is usually snatched up by bots/scalpers.

Mind you, I don't think I'd normally buy a GPU as an investment. Although I suppose that's exactly what people mining crypto are currently doing.

No they aren't.

As soon as the crash happens all the GPUs will crash heavily. You will be picking up a gpu for buttons.

I know this from experience of mining in the past. I sold all of my cards 2 months before the crash happened.

It was just right place at the right time. I made money off crypto and the cards.

However I would have lost on the cards if I held them when the crash hit.

Thing is they've got a long way to crash to drop down much below MSRP. I mean say for the sake of argument a 3080 is £1300, I can't see it dropping more than half it's value *that* quickly, you would get a chance to catch the wave on the way down if you wanted to get shot of it. Apart from anything else, perhaps more so than the last mining boom, these cards are actually considered good value by gamers as well. There would be a queue of gamers wanting RTX3080 at £650 regardless of their mining potential and satisfying that demand would soak up a lot of the stock. Remember the shortages this time are as much about poor supply as they are miners, it's not like there are millions and millions of cards all in the hands of miners waiting to be dumped on the market causing a glut so excessive it makes these cards worth peanuts. Heck the last boom and bust cycle I hardly saw that many bargains coming out, 1080ti still held it's value. I picked up a 1070ti but even then it wasn't THAT cheap, it was still more expensive second hand than any card I've even bought brand new (and I've been buying since the 90s).
